The CASL Youth Training System (YTS) U9 Developmental Program begins its 10th year in the Fall of 2010. The program is designed to enhance development by providing professional coaching to young soccer players who have already showed signs of becoming an ‘Elite’ level player. YTS is geared towards the individual player’s skill and technique. Team concepts and team results are secondary at this young age and will not be a priority. YTS Players will train under the guidance of a CASL Program Director and Classic Coaches assigned to each of the 4 boys teams and 2 girls team in the YTS U9 program.
As stated above, the program’s goals are to help the young individual player learn and refine the basic techniques of the game and then adding and introducing advanced skills when the players show they are ready. YTS training will include:
· Individual ball oriented, technical training including dribbling moves, feints, and escaping from defenders, ball striking
· The introduction of on-field positions and the skills needed to be successful in these positions
· Teaching small groups to keep possession of the ball with the use of individual skill as well as passing and movement
· Specialized running and coordination technique with and without the soccer ball to work on overall athleticism
The main objective of YTS is to develop a program that provides talented young players a league where the focus is not on results of the team but instead on results of the player. The U9 YTS group will consist of 4 boys teams and 2 girls teams. These teams will compete against each other and will also play games vs. CASL challenge teams as well as other local clubs in the area.
· YTS will train twice a week and compete in the North Carolina Champions League, a local league within the triangle that will play games on the weekends
• YTS Teams will play 6v6 and will have a roster of 10-12 players
- The CASL Coaching Staff may use their discretion to move players to appropriate YTS program level
