CASL Chelsea U16 finish in 4th place at ECNL Finals
CASL's Chelsea Ladies U14 and U16 ECNL Teams competed in Richmond on the biggest stage for elite girls' soccer competition. The U16s participated in the Rivah Draw to find out who they will face in their first match and remaining bracket play. US Women's National Team Head Coach, Tom Sermanni, was on hand for the draw.
CASL Chelsea Ladies U14 team, coached by Damon Nahas, are one of 16 teams competing in a 4-game knock-out competition at the finals. The team finished second in the Southeast Conference this past regular season with a regular season record of 11-3-4.
CASL Chelsea U14 fell to the top-ranked PDA ECNL team in the first knock-out game of the Championships. In their following games, they fought hard but were unable to take down any of the other top-seeds they faced during knock-out competition. The U14s gained a lot of experience in this tournament, and they will be working hard next season to make their way back to the ECNL Finals. They finished the season as one of only 16 teams across all ECNL U14 clubs to make it to the ECNL Finals. This in itself is a huge accomplishment, the CASL Chelsea U14 ECNL team represented the best of the best in soccer competition at the Finals.
CASL Chelsea Ladies U16 team, coached by Sean Nahas, competed in Aurora, Colorado last month for the opportunity to qualify for this week's finals. They emerged as one of eight play-off group winners who advanced to the League Finals in Richmond. Last year, this team came in 2nd place in the U15 ECNL Southeast Conference.
The U16 CASL ECNL Team went 2-1 in bracket play of the ECNL North American League finals. They defeated SLSG 4-2 in the first round of bracket play on Thursday. On Friday, they fell to Sporting Blue Valley ECNL out of the Midwest conference. They rebounded on Sunday as they defeated East Meadow Soccer Club 2-0. With that win, they advanced out of their group to the 3rd place game. They were unable to find their way back from a 1-0 deficit against Albertson Fury ECNL on Monday, July 15. The U16 ladies finished in 4th place in the Finals.
Last month, the CASL Chelsea Ladies U18 team lost in the 2013 ECNL Finals for their age group in Aurora, Colorado. The team fell short in the semi-finals. However, they should hold their heads high as they left a legacy with CASL and the ECNL. They were the reigning back-to-back ECNL National Champions at U16 and U17. They held the #1 ranking int he country for 2.5 years. They earned many accomplishments in their run in the USYSA including a National CHampionship Finalist, North Carolina State Cup Championships, USYSA Region III Champions, Region III semi-finalists, Disney Soccer Showcase Champions, and CASL Shootout Champions among others. This team has worked hard for many years as a collective unit, which paid off as many of them will be heading off to the next stage in their lives as collegiate soccer players. They will be representing colleges within our state as well as around the nation including Duke, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Virginia Tech, College of Charleston, Elon, Appalachian State, Clemson, Ohio State, ECU, University of Virginia, Villanova, and University of Pittsburgh.
